To determine that photography is an art or not, famous writer Sukumar Roy wrote that the field of photography is limited as an artist’s creativity cannot be flourished completely for photography contrary to painting where an artist can use brush, pencil and colors without any barrier to portray his/her imagination.

I completely agree to his judgement. A painter can play with colors and brushes without any restriction to portray his/her emotions in a painting. In the case of photography it is not same as painting. For photography the photographer can use his/her camera and some additional functionalities to capture moments from real world. So, in the case of painting imagination is key contributor whereas for photography reality takes the place of imagination. So, for me painting is a true art but photography is not. A photographer can claim his/her credit for quality of any photo but it is unreasonable to claim his/her credit for the beauty of the photo.

With the beginning of digital era, everyone is addicted to photography and in this case I am also not an exception. So, whenever I get some time I take my camera and go midst of the nature to capture its beauty.



ফটোগ্রাফি এক প্রকার আর্ট কিনা সেই প্রসঙ্গে শিশুসাহিত্যিক সুকুমার রায় বলেছেন – “তুলি পেন্সিল কলম শিল্পীর আয়ত্তাধীন, এগুলিকে শিল্পী রেখাংকন ও বর্ণপ্রয়োগার্থ যথারুচি ব্যবহার করিতে পারেন । কিন্তু ফটোগ্রাফির প্লেট বা লেন্স তো তাঁহার ইচ্ছা অনিচ্ছার অনুগত নহে । অকাট্য বৈজ্ঞানিক প্রক্রিয়ার মধ্যে শিল্পীর ব্যক্তিগত কেরামতির স্থান কোথায় ? আপত্তিটার মূলে যুক্তিযুক্ততা রহিয়াছে সন্দেহ নাই । বাস্তবিক আর্ট হিসাবে ফটোগ্রাফির ক্ষেত্র নিতান্ত সংকীর্ণ বলিতে হইবে ।”

শিল্পের দিক থেকে দেখতে গেলে সত্যি হয়তো ফটোগ্রাফিতে কোনো মৌলিক ব্যাপার নেই । চিত্রশিল্পী রঙ তুলি নিয়ে তার মনের আবেগ, আনন্দ, দুঃখ, সৌন্দর্য্য কে ছবিতে ফুটিয়ে তোলেন – তাই চিত্রাঙ্কন বাস্তবিক ভাবেই একটি শিল্প বা ‘আর্ট’ । ফটোগ্রাফির ক্ষেত্রে সব কৃতিত্বই ক্যামেরার । সে তার বর্ণ ও বিন্দুর সমাহারে ধরে রাখে কোনো বাস্তব সৌন্দর্য্য । চিত্রশিল্পীর শিল্পে কল্পনার আধিক্য বেশী আর ফটোগ্রাফির শিল্পে বাস্তবের আধিক্য । চিত্রশিল্পে নায়ক হল চিত্রশিল্পী আর ফটোগ্রাফিতে নায়ক হল ক্যামেরা । তাই ফটোগ্রাফিতে ফটোগ্রাফার ছবি তোলার আঙ্গিকে তার শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব দাবী করতে পারেন কিন্তু ছবির সৌন্দর্য্যের ব্যাপারে তার কৃতিত্ব দাবী করা অমূলক ।

সারা বিশ্বে ক্রমবর্ধমান প্রযুক্তিবিদ্যার সৌজন্যে বর্তমানে হাতে হাতে ক্যামেরার আধিক্য । আর সবাইকে পেয়ে বসেছে ছবি তোলার নেশা । সেই নেশা আমাকেও ধরেছে এবং বেশ আষ্টেপৃষ্ঠে । তাই সময় পেলেই বেড়িয়ে পড়ি বাংলার প্রকৃতির অপরূপ সৌন্দর্য্যকে ক্যামেরায় বন্দী করে রাখতে ।
